How to apply
If you are thinking of applying to any airline definitely do your research! I showed up to my first airline interview looking like a fool in normal business causal clothes, my hair down, even wore leopard print loafers for a pop of color, while everyone else literally dressed like a flight attendant. Black skirt, white blouse, black blazer, pantyhose, black heels, hair in a bun, red nails and lips, all tattoos covered, (some even had a scarf around their neck...I kid you not.) I didn’t get an offer my first time around so I noted the attire, ditched the animal print, and later landed a job with my current airline!
After realizing how unprepared I was, I got on YouTube and found tons of videos on what to expect as far as interview attire, what the recruiters are looking for, and the overall interviewing process. Basically any tips I could get from the people who have been through it! Also, Glassdoor.com is a great site for all of the questions you will have to answer in your interviews.
So first step before all of this, submit your resume. Having customer service experience is a plus, with this, you’ll more than likely get a call or email back saying you will be set up with a video questionnaire. Don’t worry if you don’t have a background in customer experience, everyone has to start somewhere. You’ll just have to prove you’ve got what it takes in the interview!
Now, the video questionnaire will have roughly 5-6 questions (all of which you’ll find on Glassdoor). For this, I suggest practicing your answers in a mirror with a smile before starting the video questionnaire. It helps so that you are aware of your facial expressions when giving your answers.
Couple of tips:
Smile
Look into the camera, not at yourself
Dress professionally & be well groomed
Be sure to have a quiet space with a clean background that isn’t distracting
Once you’ve answered, move onto the next question. Just because you may have some time left doesn’t mean you should ramble. Well done!
You’ll submit that, then you’ll later get a call scheduling a face to face interview aka f2f (sometimes they ask for a phone interview before the f2f but not always).
Once you've scheduled a f2f this is where you’ll have a group interview followed by a one on one interview with a recruiter.
Couple of tips for the group interview:
Arrive early
Bring all necessary items
Dress professionally (think flight attendant attire)
Try to remember the names of the people you meet
Be friendly, bring a fun positive energy, and get to know everyone. The recruiters like to see your personality shine
In my experience, if they think you’ve got that flight attendant flair, they will bring you individually into a room and present you with what’s called a conditional job offer at the end of the interview which basically means you’re hired. Yay! Then you will get set up with a training date.
Training is 6-8 weeks depending on the airline.
Keep in mind the whole interviewing process takes anywhere from a few months to a year. They’ve got thousands of applicants so it takes quite some time in between the video questionnaire, f2f, and training day so don’t be alarmed if you don’t hear back right away!
Good luck to you! I hope this helps and I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have!
